Which means that we will officially be in line to get a court date to be able to bring our son home.

Pray that our paperwork will move quickly through this process. And pray for our son. The more we learn about the situation he is coming from (poverty, brokenness, abandonment, death, etc.), the more our heart yearns to be the family God has called us to be for him.

We still have a huge chunk of fees, travel expenses, and medical costs ahead of us. We anticipate that will we need around $15,000 just to get our son home.

If you want to help, we would greatly appreciate it. Any help you can offer, no matter how big or small, will be used to give an orphan a forever family.
Even though we have been waiting for over 2 years, it caught us by total surprise.

We are not able to publicly share his picture and information yet, but it is surreal seeing his face and looking into his eyes. He is about 6 years old (they are not sure exactly how old he is). He has some minor health issues that we are praying about and trusting God for. And he has a bright and radiant smile.

At this point, we have to complete some more paperwork and wait for a court date. The hope would be to travel to Ethiopia to meet him by the end of this year.

As we accept this referral, we have to pay a large chunk of our adoption expenses. About $7,000 is due immediately. God has provided thus far and we are confident He will continue to provide what we need to obey Him in this way.

Please pray for us. Also, if you want to help with our adoption costs, there are several ways to do so. You can give with a credit card through our Pure Chairty fundraiser (link in sidebar) or you can send a check directly to us.
We are that much closer to rescuing a fatherless, motherless, family-less child. We've got a spot at the dinner table and a ton of hope that Jesus will be sufficient at every step along the way.

We still desperately need your help. Please pray for us as we wait. Please pray for the son God has picked out for us in Ethiopia. And please consider supporting us financially. We've still got well over half of the adoption costs (including the travel expenses for when we go to Ethiopia) ahead of us.

Our first adoption fundraiser is coming up. On Thursday, June 7, from 5-8pm, Chick-fil-A of Wilson will donate a small percentage of your food purchase toward our adoption. If you are in the Wilson area, please plan to eat at Chick-fil-A that evening. Also, please invite friends and family. The more people that come eat, the higher the percentage of the sales we get.

For those who may be familiar with other fundraisers Chick-fil-A has done: We are not going to be standing outside with buckets asking for donations. We will just be getting a percentage of the sales. Chick-fil-A will be donating that percentage directly to America World Adoption on our behalf.

We have a flyer made up if you would like to help us advertise. Just send me an email and I can get you one. Thanks for your support.

Here are a few of the most compelling reasons:

1. We want to demonstrate the gospel of Jesus Christ in a visible way.

The doctrine of adoption is the heart of the Gospel. Our sin made us orphans and in Christ we have been adopted into the family of God. We have been given the ability to call God, "Abba." So, we want to demonstrate the same love and grace we have been shown in Christ.

2. We want to communicate our commitment to life.

We want to put our money where our mouth is when it comes to being pro-life. Being pro-life means being pro-adoption. If we encourage women to not abort their children, we must be the first in line to tell them we will care for them if they cannot.

3. We want to display God's compassion to the helpless.

The Bible is clear that one of the evidences of true faith is to care for the disadvantaged and poor and helpless of society (like orphans and widows - James 1:27). God is the Father of the fatherless. He is near to the brokenhearted. We have been called to be God's hands and feet and serve those who cannot care for themselves.

4. We want to express God's heart for the nations.

This is the main reason we have chosen international adoption. We want to think outside of our little world and look to the heart of God for all peoples. We want to expose ourselves to other cultures and express our desire to see the name of Jesus famous in every part of the world.

5. We want to look as much like the Kingdom of God as possible.

The Kingdom of God does not consist of only one skin color or hair type. The Kingdom of God consists of all races and tribes and languages. We want our family to be diverse. We cannot adopt a child from every nationality, but we can start with one.

6. I want to be an example of Biblical manhood.

As a man, I've been called to lead and to protect. Men look for ways to protect and provide for the needy. Real men move toward need not away from it. I cannot protect and provide for every orphan. But, I can demonstrate Biblical manhood by being a shield and refuge for one.

None of this is meant to say that every Christian is supposed to adopt a child. But, it does point to the fact that every Christian should do what they can to support adoption and orphan care.
pastor justinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07638482688179445244noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2675117713643080160.post-72507131210272710152012-04-16T15:30:00.002-04:002012-04-16T15:30:52.720-04:00Chick-Fil-A Fundraiser DATE CHANGEWe had to move our Chick-fil-A fundraiser to June 7 (instead of May 24). We have one more visit to make and once our home study is written, we'll be finalizing the paperwork and sending it to Ethiopia. I'm hoping to be able to send our dossier to Ethiopia in early May. We are grateful to be seeing progress and trusting the Lord to help us make much of Him.pastor justinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07638482688179445244noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2675117713643080160.post-46084298222948247572012-02-29T21:23:00.002-05:002012-03-02T08:55:04.388-05:00Support Idea: Tax RefundWe are excited to announce that we are officially in the home study process. We have most of the paperwork completed and are awaiting our home study. Once the home study is complete, we will be ready to send our dossier to Ethiopia. They tell us that the wait time once the dossier is sent is about a year.

So, please be praying for this home study process that is supposed to take about 3 months total.
Pray for the child that God has already picked out for us in Ethiopia. It is crazy to think of what he is doing right now and if he is even born yet. Only God knows.

Also, pray for us to have wisdom as we plan some fundraisers for later this year. A big chunk of the cost will be due when we send in the dossier.pastor justinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07638482688179445244noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2675117713643080160.post-4059356414779835912012-02-10T09:13:00.002-05:002012-02-10T09:17:35.542-05:00First Big Step Completed! We are so excited to announce that today Justin is mailing off our home study packet. The first Big Step is complete, at least on our part. Now we will await our home visits and see if all our paperwork is right! This process of the home study will take about 90 days to complete! Please be praying for us in this, thanks so much.
A special note to my husband, I am glad you are an OCD organizer or this "paperwork pregnancy" would never get completed!
jeannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12384463582727604533noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2675117713643080160.post-35400363926533469372012-02-07T16:40:00.000-05:002012-02-07T16:40:21.274-05:00Rate of Ethiopian Adoptions Down 90%Here is a discouraging article about what we're facing in adopting from Ethiopia. If you or anyone you know may be able to help us, please let us know (must be in the Wilson, NC area):

We need a notary who would be willing to donate his/her services in notarizing about 10 or so documents sometime in the next few months (once we get all the paperwork done).

Also, we are most likely going to need a notary to meet us at a doctor's office sometime in the next few months in order to notarize a physical form in the presence of the doctor. We can work at scheduling this appointment to fit the schedule of the notary.

Stipulation: The notary's commission must not expire in the next 2 years.

God, please provide.pastor justinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07638482688179445244noreply@blogger.com0
